PROFILE

Y.A. Dato’ Mohd Hishamudin Mohd Yunus was born in 1949 in Johol, Negeri Sembilan. Y.A. Dato’ received his earlier education at Tunku Abdul Rahman School in Gemas and proceeded to his secondary education at the prestigious Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) from 1962 to 1968. Y.A. Dato’ further his studies at the University of London’s School of Political Science where he received his his degree, Bachelor of Law with Honours. Y.A Dato was admitted as Barrister-At-Law at The Honorable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, London in 1973. He then pursued his Master of Law studies at the renowned London School of Economics in 1978.

Y.A. Dato’ began his career in Law on August 1973 as Magistrate at Legal dan Judicial Services, Bukit Mahkamah Kuala Lumpur. He was then appointed as Magistrate at the Magistrate’s Court Kelang and was appointed as President of the Sessions Court in Alor Setar. Between December 1973 to October 1975, Y.A. Dato’ was appointed as Magistrate in Alor setar and then took up the position of Deputy Registrar at the Ipoh High Court and in July 1976 Deputy Registrar at the High Court, Alor Setar.

In 1977, Y.A. Dato’ was appointed as Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Attorney General’s Department and in furthered his studies in Law at London from September. Upon his return, Y.A. Dato’ served as the Legal Advisor for the Ministry of Primary Industries and in 1979 he was appointed as federal Counsel, Civil Dvision, Attorney General’s Department. In January 1980, he held the position of Assistant Draftsman at the Drafting Division Unit, Attorney General’s Department. In May 1984, Y.A. Dato’ was appointed as Advocate and Solicitor for the High Court of Malaysia.

In October 1987, he was appointed Deputy Head of the Advisory and International Law Division, Attorney General’s Department. In 1989, Y.A. Dato’ was appointed Legal Advisor for the state of Selangor and also the Syariah Appeals Court Judge and the Fatwa Council Member of Selangor.

In 1992, he returned to the Attorney General’s Department as Deputy Draftsman at the Drafting Unit and not long after, he was appointed as Chief Registrar at the Supreme Court, Kuala Lumpur, after which in October, 1992 he was appointed as Judicial Commissioner at The High Court Kuala Lumpur (Criminal Division).

In January 1993,he moved to the Shah Alam High Court as Judicial Commissioner and then transferred to the Alor Setar High Court in the same position. In October 1994, Y.A. Dato’ was appointed High Court Judge in Alor Setar. After holding the position for 5 years, he moved to Kuala Lumpur and held the seat of High Court Civil Judge. In May 1999, he was The High Court Judge in Temerloh. In 2000, he transferred the Shah Alam High Court as the Senior Judge and in 2003 as the High Court Judge (Civil) in Kuala Lumpur.

In August 2007, Y.A. Dato’ was appointed as Judge at High Court Kuala Lumpur (Civil) in Jalan Duta. In January 2008, Y.A. Dato’ was appointed as High Court Judge (Commercial). In May 2008, Y.A. Dato’ was appointed by International Bar Association Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) for the fact finding delegation to South Africa for the Independence of the Judiciary. In April 2009 Y.A. Dato’ was elevated as Judge of the Court of Appeal Malaysia. For his contribution to the country Y.A. Dato’ Mohd Hishamudin was conferred Darjah Setia Diraja Kedah (D.S.D.K).

Y.A. Dato’ is married to Datin Siti Patimah binti Dato’ (Dr.) Haji Ahmad with 4 children.
