ASSOCIATION OF ASIAN CONSTITUTIONAL COURTS AND EQUIVALENT INSTITUTIONS (AACC)

The Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions, or AACC, is an Asian regional forum for constitutional justice established in July of 2010 to promote the development of democracy, rule of law and fundamental rights in Asia by increasing the exchanges of information and experiences related to constitutional justice and enhancing cooperation and friendship between institutions exercising constitutional jurisdiction.

History of Establishment

1. 3rd Seminar of Asian Constitutional Court Judges (Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia, Sep. 2005)

    Began initial talks to create an association of constitutional courts in Asia

2. 5th Conference of Asian Constitutional Court Judges (Seoul, Korea, Oct. 2007)

   Signed an MOU to set up a preparatory committee for the establishment of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts

   *MOU signatories (4): Indonesia, Korea, Mongolia and the Philippines

3. Preparatory Committee meetings (2008-2010) and launch of AACC

The AACC was officially launched at the 4th Preparatory Meeting (Jakarta, Indonesia, Jul. 2010), where the founding members adopted the Jakarta Declaration on the Establishment of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions that includes the agreement to convene the Inaugural Congress in Korea

4. Preparatory Meeting of the Board of Members for the Inaugural Congress (Seoul, Korea, May 2011)

     Approved admission of new members (Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey

     Decided the theme, time and invitees for the Inaugural Congress
