CHIEF JUDGE OF THE HIGH COURT OF MALAYA

 

 

The Right Honourable Datuk Seri Hashim bin Hamzah was born on 26 December 1961 in Penang. His Lordship is a graduate of the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from the University of Malaya in 1985. His Lordship was also admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 19 October 1996.

 

His Lordship’s legal career in the public service began when he joined the judiciary as a Magistrate in 1985, a position he held until 1992. His Lordship was subsequently appointed as Head of the Prosecution Unit and Senior Federal Counsel at the Attorney General’s Chambers from 1992 to 2003, before being appointed as a Sessions Court Judge from 2003 to 2008.

 

In 2009, His Lordship served as the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Federal Court of Malaysia and subsequently as the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court of Malaysia from 2010 to 2012.

 

On 1 November 2012, His Lordship was appointed as a Judicial Commissioner at the High Court in Shah Alam, Selangor. Thereafter, His Lordship was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Malaya at the High Court in Shah Alam, Selangor in 2014. His Lordship also served as a High Court Judge in Alor Setar, Kedah from 2015 to 2018, and at the High Court in Ipoh, Perak from 2018 to 2021.

 

On 1 April 2021, His Lordship was appointed as a Judge of the Court of Appeal, and was subsequently appointed as a Federal Court Judge on 3 December 2025. The pinnacle of His Lordship’s judicial career was marked on 3 December 2025, when His Lordship was officially appointed as the Chief Judge of Malaya.

 

In recognition of His Lordship’s contributions to the nation, His Lordship was conferred the titles of Darjah Ahli Mahkota Perak (A.M.P.) in 1998, the Darjah Johan Negeri Pulau Pinang (D.J.N.) in 2007, and in 2008, His Lordship was conferred the title of Darjah Paduka Cura Simanja Kini (P.C.M.) by the State of Perak. Thereafter, His Lordship was also conferred the title of Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri Pulau Pinang (D.S.P.N.)

 

in 2010. In 2017, His Lordship was conferred the title of Darjah Paduka Mahkota Kedah (D.P.M.K.) by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Kedah at the time, the late Al-Mu‘tasimu Billahi Muhibbuddin Sultan Abdul Halim Mu‘adzam Shah ibni Sultan Badlishah.

 

His Lordship is married to YBhg. Datin Fauziah binti Samsudin, and from their marriage they have been blessed with four children.
